"CITY'S BIGGEST TRAITORS" CREATES "BLACKENED GOLD"

"THE BLACKENED GOLD  AWARDS"

ABOVE: The coveted "Blackened Gold Award". I'll be looking to win a slew of these this week!

If you read yesterday's "P.B. & G.", you already know what this fantastic award is that's shown above. If you didn't catch yesterday's post, they're being handed out this week by me to myself in recognition of past writing efforts. (Since the financial rewards for writing a blog aren't that great, you have to do something to keep yourself motivated).

We just passed the one year anniversary of "Pittsburgh's Black and Gold" and as part of the celebration we've gone back and rated all 192 stories that we wrote last year. The top seven will be forever known as "Blackened Gold". Yesterday we started off with our seventh ranked winner, a great story about Pittsburgh's own Bill Cardille (and some tragedies that he caused me during my childhood).

While that story was great (if I do say so myself) this next one is just a tiny, tiny bit better, which is the way awards show are supposed to work. Let me put this story back into its' proper perspective. The Penguins were thick in the Stanley Cup playoff race earlier this year. They had already defeated the Philadelphia Knuckleheads and the Wash Capitals. Now they were heading into a major showdown with the Carolina Hurricanes (who they wound up flattening 4-0).

ABOVE: Bill Cowher harkens back to his jack-in-the-box days in Crafton.

Who to my surprise rears up his chinny chin chin but Bill Cowher, former Pittsburgher, former Steeler coach, now multmillionaire Raleigh, N.C. hoity toity resident! He's pulling for the Hurricanes too! Why the nerve of him!!!

So I thought what better way to put Bill Cowher's treasonous acts into true perspective than to rank the all-time biggest traitors in Pittsburgh sports history. So there you have it, our number six story in our first year in existence:
