In a trade that could just what the doctor ordered, the Pittsburgh Penguins today acquired New York Islanders winger Bill Guerin for a conditional fifth round choice.

The deal works like this: If the Pens make the playoffs, the pick becomes a fourth round pick. If they get into the second round it becomes a third round pick. The Penguins did not have to touch their present day roster to acquire Guerin who can be a highly effective scrappy winger.

As soon as Sidney Crosby comes back from his groin injury, he'll now have two very effective wingers on his line who weren't on the team when he went down with his most recent injury.

Recently-acquired winger Chris Kunitz has had a tremendous start since coming here in the trade that sent Ryan Whitney packing.

Kunitz scored two goals last night in the Pens victory over the Lightning and has three goals and two assists (five points) in three games (1.66 p.p.g.). If Kunitz can maintain or better that pace once Crosby comes back, Ray Shero will be looking pretty good on that trade.

Guerin can add the kind of explosiveness and going to the net to that line that should have Sidney Crosby salivating about now. The only negative on the Guerin deal is that he is a "rent-a-player" who will be a free agent a la Marian Hossa last year. Who knows, maybe this time Shero will be able to sign his newly-acquired player.
Above: Guerin has worn a few different jerseys, but he's also one tough hombre' who's always given the Pens a hard time in the past.

While Mike Therrien got the short end of the stick when he lost his job, Dan Bylsma has managed to change the team's attitude overnight while going 5-1 in the process. This team, which had done poorly on the road has now won three straight and has won four straight without injured captain, Sidney Crosby. If Bylsma can keep this team performing in this fashion, he'll be able to drop the term "interim" from his title very soon.

You know all this trouble that the Penguins have been having this season? They finally traced it to its' roots and found that no, it wasn't Michael Therrien's fault after all! The real problem, the Pens found, is also the same problem with about everything else on earth these days... Satan!!!

Above: Satan minus his earthly "cloaking device". With a true appearance like this, you'd think he would've gone harder to the net!

Above: Satan with his girlfriend. Notice the color of her dress! Interesting coincidence? Me thinks not!!! In another interesting coincidence, guess what colors the New Jersey Devils wear?

Proving once again that, "Idle hands are the Devil's workshop", Satan, above, was caught by an alert "P.B. & G." reader recently goofing off instead of practicing. New Coach Dan Bylsma won't stand for this nonsense from his players unlike previous softie Mikey Therrien! So because of the help they received from "P.B. & G.", Pens' G.M. Ray Shero decided to pull the plug on the Satan experiment and place him on waivers, calling this photo, "The last straw."

The Penguins, in rumors largely floated by their own myopic fans, are also said to be having trade deadline discussions with Ryan Malone and Jarko Ruutu. With Gary Roberts already on waivers and Mark Recchi said to be available, Ray Shero only needs to speak with the agent for Colby Armstrong to once again reunite the whole team and insure another glorious playoff run. All of these players will be obtained reportedly for Jordan Staal!

Stay tuned Penguins fans!
